Snorkeling At Kahalu'u

A few days ago I posted my adventures of snorkeling at Ho’okena, and I’ve been wanting to go back in the water ever since. Tuesday, I got my chance. I finished work early, and there were something items need to re-seat the toilet when the bathroom tiling starts. I want to make sure that everything is on hand this way we won’t have to be without a toilet for too long.

Anyway- I took my bathing suit and snorkeling gear in the event that I would make it into the water. The previous mask that I had seemed to have problems. It would fog up, leak, and it hurt to wear. It was a quality mask, but seemed to have some problems. I went to Jack’s Dive Locker while in town to see if they could help me figure out what the problem was. It seemed to be the fit for the most part. I had already been in there to try on a mask a few months ago, but didn’t buy anything at the time. This time I retried on the mask that I was interested in, and it turned out to be a perfect fit. No gaps or holes when I leaned back. I decided to go ahead and purchase Tusa Serene mask. The sales lady cleaned out the mask, and got it ready for me to go in the water.

We quickly headed down to Kahalu’u for the sunset. I was in quickly, and paddled around. I was amazed at the fit and visibility from the mask. It’s perfect. I suppose I should have gotten this one in the first place, but I didn’t. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to take the other mask back. If not, perhaps I can find someone who it will fit.

Work on the Ocean View Water station appears to be progressing. Since, my last update it appears that work on leveling the front part of the lot has occurred, and it looks likes work to level the back area is taking place. I’m guessing the area where the purple excavator is sitting is where the large tank will go. Progress is definitely being made on this project.

Media Release

The Leleiwi Community Association organized a trail clean-up on Saturday (August 28) in Keaukaha.

Community members, along with the County of Hawai’i Parks and Recreation Department and the Hawai’i Police Department’s Community Policing Section, worked in partnership to beautify the Lokoaka Trails. Trails begin from the parking lot area off Kalanianaole Avenue and lead to Carlsmith Beach Park and the Lalakea area.

The participants widened marked trails, trimmed shrubs, raked leaves and gathered rubbish.

Police encourage anyone wishing to participate in trail clean-ups to call the Community Policing Office at 961-8121.
