Another spur of the moment garage sale result in more stuff being taken away. I think we have now sold out of the items that we are willing to sell. Furniture is spoken for if the buyers decide they don’t want it. Everything else is work equipment, clothes, or basic personal items. Really not too much to ship at this point. I really like not have many items. Tonight, we did a quick round to deliver a few items to different people, and try to find something fun to do for the rest of the evening. We struck out, and settled for an early night.
Tomorrow, left over items will go to Salvation Army, and I’m head for some fun at the Beachcomber’s Fun Fair in Ocean Shores. I need a day of fun.
Yesterday, we opted to have an impromptu garage sale. It lasted from 1-4pm. The only advertising done was on craigslist, too good to toss, and this sign on the side of the road. Within 5 minutes of putting the sign out there were 10 people standing in my garage. It was a bit chaotic, but almost every tool we wanted to get rid of was gone, and we made enough to pay for a plane ticket.
Keoni leaves to fix up the new house on 3/16. I’m hoping all goes well from here on out. I think we’ll have one more garage sale this week for smaller household items.
I’ve had this salvaged vintage door sitting in my garage for the better part of 3 years. I have no idea why it was never put up, but now that the move is on I am required to have the door on it’s hinges for the room to count as a bedroom. Today, Keoni spent a few hours chiseling out the 8 or 9 or however many layers of old paint that were on the jam to reach bare wood. All this happened while I proceeded with my work. It was a careful do-si-do between us. Keoni would stop to take a break after exerting much force against the door jam. I would take those opportunities to vacuum up the flakes of lead paint that had fallen on the floor.
A few hours later door is hung, closes properly, and is getting it’s first coat of glossy white paint. While, I am finished with two batches of work. Here’s to an easy work day tomorrow, but a glorious day of purging more unneeded items.
I first visited the Hawai’i in Feburary 2003. Admittedly, I went there for all of the wrong reasons, but found myself in love with the ‘aina. At first I thought it was just a rub off of my initial motivation to visit, but over the last 5 years I’ve determined that it is indeed a love a part from that initial visit. I have returned to the islands, and the Big Island specifically, as many times as I was afforded over the years. My love has not dwindled, I’ve worked very hard to make the dream of moving to Hawai’i a reality. I have constantly heeded warnings about moving to the islands, although I listen to the advice I must give myself a shot at living in the island despite what happens.
Last month, I purchased a home in Ka’u, and my present home is currently under contract. If all goes well I will be an island resident in the next 45 days. I’m happy, and nervous. I want to succeed in this endeavour, start slowing life down a bit, growing my own food, and just maybe not go to sleep hoping I won’t wake up.
I’ve been having a lovely time picking up affordable ($1.50) flower bouquets from the Satsop Bulb Farm this Spring. Next, weekend is the last week for me to get their fresh cut flowers that have been brightening up my work space. The daffodils that I’ve been getting have a lovely scent that is like a hyacinth crossed with a plumeria. They are intoxicating… I miss the smell of plumeria. *sigh*
It’s flower time at the bulb farm. I’ve been visiting weekly to get my fix of affordable bouquets. I think I only have one more week of flowers from there, but shortly there will be more flowers at the farmer’s market.
Sleep doesn’t come easily to me. I have to be exhausted before I can fall a sleep. I usually have to read or a movie, otherwise it takes forever to get my mind to stop. Last night was nothing new, but for some reason my dreams kept waking me up. They weren’t pretty dreams, they were the kind you wake up crying and shouting to.
Are you one of those people who get irked by the poor driving of others? Then, I have a website for you. Zapatag allows you to post information about bad drivers using their license plate. No longer do you have to hold in your breath, post your experience, and warn other drivers about those crazy people. You can also track and search for specific license plates.
Now, I’m not the type of person who gets upset by bad driving of others. I typically work my way around them or ignore anything that happens, as long as I don’t get hit. At first, I wasn’t sure how I would want to use Zapatag. I really don’t want to point the negatives of other drivers. This doesn’t mean that I don’t see the need to point out bad drivers. I have decided that I will use Zapatag to point out the good drivers I run across. Why should the bad drivers be the only ones to get attention. I will start posting those good experiences I have on the road. You know those people who really Drive with Aloha!
Sorry, more of an information for me to remember post.
Weekend full of adventure in Olympia, Tacoma, & Seattle. Then, today we went to the Grays Harbor Rock & Gem Show and Ocean Shores. Here’s a Senetti Pericallis for you.
