Amateur fireworks are blasting outside. I worked for most of the day, but stopped at 4:00pm to bike over to the local “4th of July Splash” event. I knew not to expect much, but it was something to do. It was a 8 mile ride round trip, with a stop at the taco truck. How was your holiday?
I know that it is weird to plan your birthday gift four months in advance, but when it comes to planning you know I’m all over it. I just purchased tickets for David Sedaris, with a stay at the Kennedy School.
I *HEART* David Sedaris.

Last Tuesday we made our first visit to Helsing Junction Farm to pick up our first food box of the CSA season.

This week out box contained:
2 pints of strawberries
1 bunch baby arugula
1 bunch pink beauty radishes
1 red oak leaf lettuce
1 bunch spinach
1 bunch cilantro
1 bunch chives
1 bag garlic scapes*
1 bunch bok choy
Here are few things Keoni made for me to eat this week using the above items.

Fresh Strawberries

Sliced strawberries in yogurt.

Modified Sue’s Spinach and Irish Cheddar Frittata: (Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.)
-Put 1 tsp butter and 4 finely chopped garlic scapes in a sauté pan and cook until tender, about 3 minutes.
-Roughly chop 1 bunch of spinach, stems and all and then add to the scapes. Cook until spinach is wilted, set aside.
-Clean out pan, add 1TBS butter and put back on the heat.
-In a medium sized bowl, whisk 4 eggs, ¼ cup low fat milk and a pinch of salt. Add the vegetable mixture and stir.
-Pour the eggs and veggies into the hot pan and then turn off the heat.
-Sprinkle with ½ cup grated sharp Beecher’s Flagship and then pop the whole pan into the oven.
-Cook for 8-10 minutes or so until eggs are firm and the cheese is a little brown.

Keoni’s famous pizza with arugula. This pizza tasted wonderful, but looks a bit funny because it stuck to the pizza stone.

The plumeria survived the winter. They are slowly making new leaves. I don’t think that I’ll get any blooms, but I’m just happy to see the plants making new leaves. We also planted a few taro plants, and the basil is growing well.

When, I woke up I didn’t know where I was going to find myself… I finally saw the sun after a week of gray. The lack of sun is beginning to drive me crazy. I discovered a thrift store called Deseret Industries. It’s similar to a Goodwill except it’s run by the Mormons. I went in their store searching for something that I had just purchased, believe it or not they had exactly what I wanted and I promptly returned the previously purchased item. I was happier to pay $2.00 rather than $20.00 for the items.
I hinted a few weeks ago that I had something in the works… and well it is finally coming to a close. I recently put an offer an a wide 1 acre lot in the Puna district of Hawaii. The lot is very close to the house I put an offer on in January (Just makai of the highway). This lot is on a corner paved lot with power+phone, lava zone 3, and newly built homes across the street. With this said I’ve been waiting for some time for the paper work to arrive, as the seller is an elderly lady in Okinawa. It’s due to close at the end of this week, fingers crossed.
In the hopes of regaining some of the my funds I have decided to put My Hawaiian Ocean View Estates Lot for sale. I made this nifty little video, and will try to market it on craigslist. If I could sell this lot it would go a long way towards actually building something. Part of me is a bit sad to have this lot up for sale, but I know I feel more happy in Puna. So… If you want to buy a lot in HOVE, then here’s a great wide for you.

Work has been very busy lately. We went to Olympia and Portland this last weekend. I’m thinking it will be good to stay around town this weekend. It’s only half way through the week and I’m tuckered out. Keoni has been cooking like crazy the last few weeks, which has made me very happy. Right now I was just delivered an experiment… A cinnabon type creation made of whole wheat dough. It’s actually pretty good.
Portland had us meeting up with a flickr friend from the Islands, and of course we went to all our favorite places. Here is a photo from a recent trip to a local nursery.
Work has been very busy. I got out on Saturday and Sunday for a trip to Elma and Olympia, and then Sunday for the local community garden grand opening. I have pictures, but haven’t had a chance to do any editing.
While working I’ve enjoyed watching/listening to:
How To Cook Your Life
Wedding Daze
Sleeper Cell Season 2
What Would Jesus Buy
I guess you can tell that Roku is the best thing since sliced bread. Okay, maybe not bread, cause I loves bread.
The Netflix Box provided us with the following entertainment this weekend:
King Of Kong: A Fist Full of Quarters
Helvetica
Commune

The sun came out, and the Hibiscus bloomed. The yard is full of colorful flowers. The one of the four giant Rhododendrons is in full bloom, and the other three are about to follow. I have noticed that there are fewer bees than the last several years. I’m wondering if it’s because of the cooler weather we’ve had recently.
This week has been a little overwhelming, but this weekend has relaxing.

Here are the two plots we planted at the community garden. We have tomatoes, zucchini, spinach, mixed greens, carrots, corn, strawberries, cauliflower, broccoli, thai basil, thai peppers, and soy beans. I’m not sure how it is going to turn out, but at least we are trying. It’s a good reason to get me out for a walk. I’ve also signed up with a CSA called Helsing Junction Farm in Rochester, WA to get more farm direct produce this summer.
