A few days ago I posted my adventures of snorkeling at Ho’okena, and I’ve been wanting to go back in the water ever since. Tuesday, I got my chance. I finished work early, and there were something items need to re-seat the toilet when the bathroom tiling starts. I want to make sure that everything is on hand this way we won’t have to be without a toilet for too long.

Anyway- I took my bathing suit and snorkeling gear in the event that I would make it into the water. The previous mask that I had seemed to have problems. It would fog up, leak, and it hurt to wear. It was a quality mask, but seemed to have some problems. I went to Jack’s Dive Locker while in town to see if they could help me figure out what the problem was. It seemed to be the fit for the most part. I had already been in there to try on a mask a few months ago, but didn’t buy anything at the time. This time I retried on the mask that I was interested in, and it turned out to be a perfect fit. No gaps or holes when I leaned back. I decided to go ahead and purchase Tusa Serene mask. The sales lady cleaned out the mask, and got it ready for me to go in the water.

We quickly headed down to Kahalu’u for the sunset. I was in quickly, and paddled around. I was amazed at the fit and visibility from the mask. It’s perfect. I suppose I should have gotten this one in the first place, but I didn’t. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to take the other mask back. If not, perhaps I can find someone who it will fit.

Since, my last update it appears that work on leveling the front part of the lot has occurred, and it looks likes work to level the back area is taking place.
I was bad about updating yesterday. It was a busy day with a sunset photo shoot in Kona. It took awhile to work my way home, and I ended up falling asleep before I completed my post. Today, I got up and headed straight to the beach. This was my first time actually getting in the water, since I’ve been here. It’s not that I was afraid to get in the water, but more I always seemed to be going somewhere after visiting the beach leaving no time to change or really have fun. Today, we specifically headed out to get in. It allow me the chance to play with the underwater camera and get used to being in the water.

I originally headed into the water with some tiny goggles, that really mess with my vision. I freaked out every time I stuck my head under. I decided I should get a really snorkel set-up to benefit fully from the day outing. We quickly headed over to Espace Plongee to pick up a mask and snorkel. I had been in there a few months ago to try on masks, and was able to get a nice mask. Sadly, they didn’t have fin to fit me. So, up to Kona Boys we went for fins. Luckily, they had a nice pair to fit, and it was back to Ho’okena for more snorkeling.

Now, I’m beat, and I have to try to get the sand out of all these weird places.

The Na’alehu Library is a small outpost in the village, but it offers internet access as well as access to the entire state library system.

You can search the Hawai’i State Public Library System to locate books and media of interest. You can then request items to be sent to your local library. It’s great to have access to so many media items.

Admittedly, the Hawai’i Library System is limited in some items, but it still has many items I’m searching for. If only, I had to time to read all the books I’m interested in.

‘Auku’u, the Black-Crowned Night Heron, typically stands 26 inches tall with a wing span of 45inches. This bird is showing the brown and white speckled plumage of a juvenile bird. It was found hunting at the fish ponds at Honaunau. It was missing one foot up to the first joint, but appeared to be successfully hunting in the fishponds. I’m on the look out for an adult Black-Crowned Night-Heron. I’ve seen them often by the large pond next to the King Shops in Waikoloa, but I’ve never a camera with me when I see them.
